Salt Supply s1 Pepper Spray vs. Mace Pepper Gun 2.0 with Strobe LED
We get a lot of questions about how our s1 Pepper Spray Gun compares against other pepper spray guns on the market. The truth is, there is no other gun like ours out there for consumers. Today, we'd like to compare our gun with Mace Brand's Pepper Gun 2.0 with Strobe LED.
Mace's Pepper Gun 2.0 looks most like ours in comparison to the other pepper spray gun offerings out there, largely due to the fact that both of our products have a picatinny rail which allows you to attach accessories such a lasers, flashlights and even knives.
However, despite some visual similarities, our products differ greatly as our pepper spray format is difference, along with the way the chemical is released.
The Mace Pepper Gun is essentially a liquid pepper spray in the format of a gun/pistol. While this makes it more ergonomically easy to use in comparison to a handheld spray for some people, you are still getting similar outputs between canister pepper sprays and the Mace Pepper Gun.
So let’s compare the major differences between the Mace Pepper Gun and the s1 Pepper Spray Gun.
Liquid vs. Powder - The Mace Pepper Gun shoots a stream of liquid pepper spray, while the s1 shoots plastic shells filled with a powdered pepper spray and tear gas combination. The liquid pepper spray found in the Mace Pepper Gun is similar to that found in the classic pepper spray canisters made popular during the 1990s. The powdered pepper spray and tear gas mixture found in s1’s rounds are the exact same formula used by the military and prison system to stop rioting prisoners.
Distance - The Mace Pepper Gun is effective at up to 20 feet (that’s less than 6 paces). The s1 Pepper Spray Gun is effective at 150+ feet.
Shooter Contamination - Because the Mace Pepper Gun is a liquid pepper spray that aerosolizes as soon as it leaves the nozzle of the gun, it starts to contaminate the air only 3 feet in front of you. At this distance, the pepper spray mist can easily blow back and affect you. The s1 Pepper Spray Gun’s powdered pepper spray and tear gas mixture is enclosed in plastic shells that do not break open until then hit there target up to 150+ feet away. While each round creates a debilitating 5 foot cloud at impact, as long as you are not shooting the gun at a point blank distance, contamination should not be an issue.
Price - The Mace Pepper Gun is essentially a canister of liquid pepper spray in the format of a gun/pistol, so its price is very similar at just under $40. This is a great value if what you need is very short range “protection of last resort”. The s1 Pepper Spray Gun is a made for the military, so comes with higher stopping power and a higher price at $349.99. But like a lot of things in life, you get for what you pay for.
